The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and Broadview Ventures, Inc. are collaborating on NIRF Molecular Imaging of Atherosclerosis. The improved detection and stratification of vulnerable plaque, i.e. atherosclerotic plaques at risk of causing heart attacks and strokes, is an unmet need. Early detection allows early intervention and prevention. Farouc Jaffer, MD, PhD, of MGH and Vasilis Ntziachristos, PhD of TUM are developing and testing prototype devices, software and systems for a comprehensive catheter-based approach to detect high-risk plaques in human arteries.
